This 4 hour excursion takes you along Alaska's coast and inside passage in protected waters and into estuaries. These are the best places for you to look for wildlife such as Alaska Coastal Brown Bears, Sitka Blacktail Deer, American Bald Eagles, River Otters, Mink, and many other species of birds. Don't be surprised if you happen upon a Humpback Whale or Sea Otters along the way as they are common in the waters near Sitka. After exploring the shoreline for a while disembark the vessel with a guide at Eagle River Estuary where you will enjoy a 2 hour guided hike to explore the estuary habitat and watch for Alaska Coastal Brown Bears that are abundant in the area. You will be provided bear safety instructions and bear deterrents and your guide will also carry bear protection. Now that you feel comfortable and safe you will really enjoy this exciting hike into bear country. The trail is old forest road so it’s fairly easy walking about 1.25 miles along the estuary to Eagle River. Along the way there are opportunities to view different parts of the estuary and muskeg areas that have seasonal wildflowers and fungi that can be beautiful. We suggest that you bring a camera with a telephoto lens for getting the best pictures and if you have a favorite pair of binoculars they come in handy as well.
